"I'm self employed and use a cycle for local appointments. How can I receive the tax free bike benefit?"

Response:

Some small businesses have set up cycle to work schemes but they involve a lot of paperwork from what I've been told. Please contact cyclescheme.co.uk directly for more info. If you are self employed could you simply buy the cycle through your business thus avoiding the tax and reclaiming the VAT if you are able? You could also claim the governments mileage allowance for any business miles done on a personal bike. (20p per mile last time I checked.)
